Artists in grades 6–12 who are citizens of a federally recognized U.S. Indian tribe, members of an Alaska Native corporation, or recognized and documented “Indigenous Peoples” under Canadian law are eligible to participate. Members of state-recognized tribes in the United States are not eligible. Cherokee Nation Cultural and Economic Development LLC (CED) retains sole discretion in determining whether an artist is eligible. Failure to provide requested documentation may result in ineligibility or removal from the competition.
Competition Rules & Regulations
All work must be solely created by the youth artist and made within the past year. Group projects are not accepted. If an artist had outside help creating artwork, such artwork is disqualified.
Only 1 (one) entry is allowed per artist.
Artist grants a limited, non-exclusive, non-assignable, non-transferable license to CED for the purpose of allowing CED to make images of the artwork by any means, techniques and media whatsoever (including the taking of photographs) to use, re-use, reproduce, display, publish and re-publish the same in whole or in part, individually or in conjunction with other images, in any medium, now known or hereafter devised for the sole purposes of (1) using the images to conduct, advertise or market the event and (2) maintaining and updating CED’s Cherokee Art Market records and files.
This is a virtual art competition, so we ask that you submit high-quality images of your work. High-resolution photos are strongly encouraged. If your piece is three-dimensional, please include multiple angles to help judges fairly evaluate the work. All artwork should be photographed against a clean, uncluttered background.
Tips for strong artwork photos:
Use natural, even lighting—avoid harsh shadows or glare
Ensure the entire piece is visible and in focus
Crop out any unnecessary background or distractions
Use a neutral backdrop (white, gray, or black is ideal)
Photograph straight on—avoid tilted or skewed angles
For 3D pieces, include 2–4 views to show depth and detail
