His stories, accompanied by songs he plays from a collection of single- and double-chambered flutes, share his culture and his life.

Della BigHair (Crow Tribe of Montana) presents a Native fashion show. Della’s wearable fashion, inspired by traditions, is made for the here and now. She discusses the materials of her couture pieces, her techniques and more.

Cherokee Pottery with Tama Roberts

Tama Roberts (Cherokee Nation) gives a demonstration on Cherokee pottery. Robert’s style combines her Cherokee culture with a contemporary feel as she teaches the process behind her unique pottery designs and carving methods.

Resin Casting with Bryan Waytula

Bryan Waytula (Cherokee Nation) demonstrates the process behind resin casting. Every year, Waytula debuts exclusive figures at Cherokee Art Market and gives a presentation. The attendees of this presentation can learn how to make limited edition works of art.

Jennifer Jordan (Oneida Nation) presents the history of beads and beadwork, specifically highlighting the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) beadwork style. She demonstrates the art form and talks about her passion for this unique style of beadwork.

Ronald Honyouti (Hopi Tribe of Arizona) is an award-winning carver, who talks about his accomplished career and the meaning behind his work, as well as gives an overview of Katsina (spirits) and his process from selecting wood to the completion of a piece in this presentation.

Textiles & Loom Weaving with Cathy Abercrombie

Cherokee National Treasure Cathy Abercrombie demonstrates the art of loom weaving. Carrying on the legacy of the Oak Hill Cherokee Weavers, Abercrombie is a third-generation loom weaver and talks about the history of Cherokee textiles.

Karen Sixkiller (Cherokee Nation) is a contemporary sculptor whose art varies from monumental public sculptures to tabletop pieces and even functional pottery and jewelry. Karen explores the origins of information about Cherokee Grandma Spider and how it inspired the creation of the 10’ Grandma Spider / First Fire sculpture installed in the Cherokee Cultural Pathway in downtown Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

Third-generation artist Bryan Waytula (Cherokee Nation) presents his process of resin casting and mold making. Bryan’s award-winning works continue to be sought after by a wide variety of collectors, given the numerous styles and mediums he can work in.

Sayokla Kindness-Williams (Oneida Nation) gives a presentation about her ancestors’ original homelands and their story of migration, via steamboat, through the great lakes and the toll it took on the tribe.

Cherokee Contemporary Pottery Building

Lillie Vann (Cherokee Nation) crafts a difficult contemporary pottery piece and discusses the hurdles of creating something you’re not used to creating. As the granddaughter of Cherokee National Treasure Jane Osti, Lillie is carrying forth a legacy rooted in the heart of the Cherokee Nation. 

Contemporary Narratives in Ledgerart 

Dallin Maybee of the Northern Arapaho Tribe of the Wind River Reservation, Wyoming, talks about the history, background and contemporary applications of Ledger art. Maybee’s work can be found in private collections and museums across the country, including the National Museum of the American Indian, The Autry, Heard Museum, and Portland Art Museum.

Antler Carving: A Traditional Native Art

Seneca Nation of Indians artist Hayden Haynes presents the traditional Native art of antler carving. Hayden was born in Claremore, Oklahoma, and is a self-taught antler carver who began carving in his mid 20s. After realizing that antler and bone carving wasn’t receiving the same acknowledgement as other art forms, he set forth to hone his skills and bring the importance of this artform to light.

Live Paint Demonstration 

Kristin Gentry (Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma) gives a live watercolor painting demonstration. A national award-winning artist, Kristin works as a professional visual artist in the areas of relief and monotype printmaking, painting, jewelry and photography. She was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and is passionate about using her art to create different ways to preserve her traditional Southeastern tribal culture.
